    Aquatic ecosystem health & restoration

    We help clients understand what's happening in their waterways and what to do about it. Our scientists design and implement state-of-environment monitoring programmes, develop ecological indicators, build predictive models, and translate findings into practical restoration plans, across freshwater, estuarine, coastal, and marine settings.

    Aquaculture science & innovation

    From shellfish hatchery development to species domestication and ecological aquaculture design, we work alongside marine farmers, iwi enterprises, and industry bodies to advance sustainable, high-performing aquaculture systems.     Biosecurity, food safety & risk management

    We identify, assess, and help manage biological, chemical, and ecological threats to aquatic industries and public health. Our expertise covers harmful algal blooms and marine toxins, aquatic pest and pathogen surveillance, food safety testing, and integrated risk frameworks that shift clients from reactive to proactive.

Our trans-disciplinary scientific advice helps to inform the process, and outcomes, as we work alongside government agencies, industry, iwi, and communities to reach evidence-based conclusions and devise innovative new solutions to complex challenges. Our expertise in social science and mātauranga Māori complements our deep capability in the biophysical sciences, while our data science and blue technology teams help translate knowledge into practical tools, technologies and decision support.
