Anne’s research investigates the impacts of environmental stressors – including harmful algal blooms, contaminants, climate-related pressures, and infectious agents – on aquatic animal health.
Anne co-leads the Changing Microalgal Communities (CMC) Research Programme, which explores why New Zealand's microalgal communities are changing. She is interested in management of harmful algal blooms and shifts in microalgal ecosystems through the development of improved tools for detection and prediction.
She leads the development and optimisation of cellular assays for toxicological assessments and Cawthron’s ecotoxicology research and service activities.
Anne is a cellular biologist with expertise in flow cytometry and histology, applying these techniques to advance understanding of the physiology, health, and stress responses of marine organisms. With more than 10 years of research and industry experience across both the public and private sectors, she has worked internationally on a range of aquatic health and environmental challenges. Anne has experience in supervision and completion of post-graduate students and is available on supervisory committees.
